The day LOVE became our only team goal
No I have not lost my mind.
In fact I'm thinking about as clearly as I've ever thought before in my life.
On March 14, 2016 LOVE became our only goal. I had been discussing the idea with our leadership group for about a month. We had been talking about the pros and cons.
Will this mean there are no rules? No standards? Will anyone work hard? What about winning? Will anyone care if we don't set goals that tell them how to care and when to care? All valid fears. Especially these days when everyone has to have a goal and they have to be completely focused on that goal.
After talking about it for a few weeks about 80% of the leadership group was on board. They understood the value. Some commented that it was a "relief" or "freeing."
So I presented it to the team...
ONE GOAL - LOVE
Why? Because love will help us create a judgement free and understanding environment that is open to all possibilities. And that such environment - played with clear eyes and full hearts - can't lose.
Yes we stole part of that WHY from Friday Night Lights. I'm pretty sure coach Taylor is fine with it.
So every goal needs a plan right? Ours was simple:
Love yourself;
Love the game;
Love your teammates;
Love your coaches;
Love your opponents;
Love the referees.
The measure? Did we feel the love?
I'll let you know if we did...
